The Art of Craftsmanship: Polishing Stones with Love
Our jewelry-making process starts with the stones we collect from various locations, including serene beaches. We handpick each stone, considering its shape, texture, and unique qualities. Some stones that are not indigenous to our area are sourced from local, ethical businesses. Back at our workshop, we begin the meticulous process of polishing, using a traditional rock tumbling method. This polishing can take five or more weeks to complete, depending on the type of the stone and its hardness. Stones that we polish at our shop run through five different polish stages and washes in between most stages.
We believe that each stone has its own personality and story to tell, and it is our job to bring out its natural beauty. Through weeks of polishing, we enhance the stone’s colors and reveal its hidden patterns. The final result is a breathtaking gem that becomes the centerpiece of our jewelry.
Breathing Life into Driftwood: From Beachcombing to Masterpieces
Driftwood is an essential element in our creative process. We spend countless hours beachcombing, searching for the perfect pieces that will complement the polished stones. Just like the stones, each piece of driftwood has a unique shape and texture, and we carefully select the ones that resonate with our vision.
Back in our workshop, we treat the driftwood with the utmost care and respect. Each piece is cut and shaped by hand, then sanded by hand until the finish is smooth. We leave imperfections as often as we can so one can imagine the story the wood has to tell. From rusty nail marks to worn holes to odd shapes, one can only imagine where the wood came from. We then find the perfect stone for the shape and color of the wood and gently, carefully carve out a spot in the driftwood to place the stone. Just as stones are connected to the Earth, so too is wood. It is incredible to consider the journey the driftwood we collect has taken.
